New Fence, Birdhouses, Bunny Sanctuary!

The Fence is UP! Complete with birdhouses! We put up "Bluebird Houses" but the sparrows started building nests in them immediately. 

We decided to add fencing to the back corner of the lot where the bunnies live... to keep Roxy and "the boys" out of the brush since they just love to get back there and get full of stickers. And this way we created a BUNNY SANCTUARY... which makes me happy! 

New Fence meets Old Farm Fence.

Yep... Camo Strap... because that is just how we roll here : ) 

This is the old Farm Fence. I kinda love it. 

And this is just how I roll... 

Our Farm Gate worked out perfectly! 

This is supposed to be a Wren House but I haven't seen any birds checking it out yet.

This male Cardinal kept us company singing happily while we worked.

So we got our Country Fence up all around the property... And put up nesting boxes for the birds...

 ... And created a Bunny Sanctuary! 

We definitely earned a trip to another Golf Course.

Goose Nest, Covered Bridge, Cool Path... Golfing!

I had never been golfing before moving to Illinois. I'm pretty sure the golf courses in California are very different from these in the Midwest. I can't actually play golf because I have a jacked up knee right now but I love being on the course and taking pictures. This weekend I was able to try different settings on my new camera and I have to share. This is a Goose Nest that was on the course. The geese were not nearby which surprised me. I thought they would be protecting their eggs but instead they flew off when we came up. 

 The nest was just on the ground to the left of this bridge.

I think this is a very cool old covered bridge.

 I have photographed it before but I got some different shots of it with my new camera this time.

It looks like a Fall photo but it is actually Spring! On a golf course in Illinois!

I just love this. I had no idea golf courses were like this.

Another bridge and an old tree.

I'm sure the next time we come out here this will look completely different. The scenery changes with the seasons.

Proof that this is a golf course and we were there to play. 

Now I want to see golf courses all over the country. And he wants to play them so we have a list. Next... Tennessee.

The Geese Are Back

 This Winter was so cold and so long... Richard says it was the first time in the 20 years he has lived here that the lake froze over completely and the geese left. So, apparently... if it is cold enough for the Bald Eagles to come to the Dam it is too cold for the geese to stay at the lake. Now that Spring is FINALLY here and the lake has thawed the geese are back! Yay! I adore these mornings when the sun is shining and the lake is still and the geese are here.

And, of course, my Droo is by my side...

Putting up the Fence

Our heart within a heart tree

In California yards are fenced in when the houses are built usually. If the fence needs to be replaced you hire a professional to put up a new one. Well, that's not the way it is out here in Illinois Country. Fences are put up by the farmers to keep their cows, horses, and other animals contained on their property. Fences are not put up around homes here like they are in California. You don't call a guy to come put up a block wall or a wood fence around your yard... you put up a fence yourself. This is "Country Living"... 

 To pull the fence "taut" you need a tractor or something... 

 Only it isn't heavy enough so I have to sit on it... that's my job... hold down the tractor

So here I am sitting on the tractor mower and yes I am a dork...

It looks like I have a tree branch sticking out of my head. 

Since I have to sit here for a while, and I have my camera... I'll take pictures...

And I can see cows way over on the other side of the road through the trees...

Awwww.... there is a tiny baby cow. I'm going to have to go over there and get some photos soon.

Wow... these trees are huge! 

These are the trees I love right outside the kitchen window where the birds come to let me know the feeders are empty. And I can see the dogs are out playing across the lake...

Back to the cows... and there's a golf cart... most people here at the lake have golf carts to drive around.

Wait... is that a bungee cord holding the birdhouse together? Haha... I love it!

The branches are Wisteria and in the Summer it blooms like crazy and is so beautiful! I love the windmill too. 

Back to the fence... 

The sun is setting... 

We're running out of daylight. 

That's all we can do today.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow so we may not be able to finish til the weekend. Stay tuned :)
