Amazing Day of Animal Sightings

We went out to the golf course last Friday and it was an amazing day.
On the way there a mama deer crossed the road with her baby. I didn't have my camera ready because it was mid-morning and hot so the last thing we expected to see was deer. I did get this photo of the mom but the baby was hidden in the corn. A few minutes later we saw another deer in a field.
It was a hot, humid day. Which is good for photographing, not so good for golfing.
The roses were in bloom.
The trees were in full green summer foliage with ivy climbing all over everything.
Bright yellow Day Lillies were blooming at every turn.

And other things were in bloom
The ponds were reflecting all the beautiful green foliage.
I don't know what this is but I like it...
The squirrels were out in abundance and very playful.
We watched this couple play a game of tag around and up this tree.
This bird came right up and landed on the top of this tree where Richard's golf ball was.
And it sat there singing while he played that hole.
When Richard was done the bird flew away.

I think it is a Kingbird.
It was like the bird came just to give him some advice : )

Then we came up on a family of geese right in the path.
We stopped and I took a few photos.
The mother goose gave us a warning but they let us drive the cart by them and let us come pretty close to look at the babies.

We kept a safe distance so we didn't scare them.
You can imagine my delight!
I was so happy!
~
Then I saw something swimming across the pond.
At first, from the distance we were away from it, I assumed it was a duck.
But, I started to realize it wasn't a duck. I told Richard I saw something swimming but I didn't think it was a duck. He said it was probably a muskrat. What??? I have never seen a muskrat before!
We watched the bank where it had gone under the water...
There were tons of dragonflies and I love the colors in this shot...
... sure enough, it came back out... a muskrat!
And we watched it carry a piece of weed across the pond.
It disappeared again at the bank and I was waiting for it to come back out...
Then we saw something else going across the water...
Everyone knows I have a snake phobia but I did take this picture!
~
It cracks me up that they find it necessary to post this sign...lol
I didn't know golfers could be so wild : )
But I can see how it would be fun to go a little fast here...lol

At the end of the course we drove back around the pond and the geese family swam along next to us.
On the way home we saw several more deer. We were surprised to see them out in the middle of a hot afternoon. They seemed to be playing in the field.
Then I saw a coyote who was standing close to the road in another field. He just stood there and looked at me. I was sad that I didn't have my camera ready.
But what an amazing day!

Day 10 ~ Kentucky to Home

The last day of our trip we drove through old Georgetown, Kentucky before heading to Louisville
What a cute little town.
We love when we come across quaint little things like this.

And we took the back road through the country side
We really wanted to see the Kentucky country side
This very cool stone wall went on for a couple of miles
Going through a tunnel and on the other side we come into...
Louisville, Kentucky

This is really all we saw of the city itself
Love this view and these beautiful bridges
The sign says Canal Entrance
It's all about bridges in Louisville
This looked like a roller coaster
Doesn't it?

The other type of bridge is for trains...
So the roller-coaster-looking bridge is the one we take to cross over the Ohio River
I didn't realize we would be crossing over this river several times in a couple of days.
Then we enter into Indiana...
Back to the fields of yellow flowers and little farms
Driving through Indiana, west to Illinois...
Is it just me? Or does this seem not quite right... Amish Buffet (?)
 I couldn't leave this out : )
 A pretty farm in Indiana
Wow! What is wrong with this picture?
I hope there wasn't a train on it when it collapsed.
~ Back in Illinois, temporarily...
Every state in this area seems to stake a claim to Lincoln in some way : )
I wish I had been able to get a good photo of this couple in the car. I wonder if they are the original owners?

We can definitely tell we are back in Illinois. It was interesting to watch the landscape change from state to state, from mountains and trees to flat farmlands.
But only for a little while as we head into St. Louis, Missouri from the East side.
Coming into St. Louis from this side is a completely different experience.
Back to the Mississippi River

And another Cable Car Train I didn't know existed.
Which brings us full circle back to the west side of St. Louis, Missouri on the last leg of our journey.

I think it is appropriate to end with a double steeple...
The rest of the drive was just the last hour of familiar scenes that I have been taking photos of for the last year and a half so this ends our road trip.

I hope you enjoyed the journey with us.
~

Until next time...
